Stop Using Plain White Rice — We Mixed 4 Grain Bags Into Something Better

We love white rice. Calrose, jasmine — we’ve had both and they’re great. But somewhere along the way Happy Healthy Wife decided we should try mixing a whole bunch of grains together instead, and honestly? I like it even better now.

Here’s what goes into our mix: Jayone Mixed 7 Grains, Grain Harvest 12 Mixed Grains, Haetae Black Wild Sweet Rice, and Wang Korea Mixed 5-Grains (that last one we order from Weee!). Dump all four bags into the biggest mixing bowl you own, put on some gloves, and mix thoroughly so you get an even distribution across all your containers. Once it’s cooked, the whole thing turns a deep purple-black color from the black rice — don’t let that surprise you. It looks wild, but it tastes wonderful.

We’ve been doing this blend since before the AI Diet even started — this isn’t something Claude invented for us, it’s just how we cook rice now. Any dish that calls for rice, this is what goes in. Porridge, stir fry sides, you name it. The kids aren’t big fans, but sometimes we make them eat it anyway.

You can find most of these at a Chinese or Korean grocery store. Some may pop up at larger American markets but your best bet is an Asian market or ordering online.

If you’ve been following the AI Diet series, you’ve already seen this rice in the background of plenty of meals. Now you know what it is.
