Stop Thinking AI Does the Work — 12 Weeks Proved It’s Still All You

Twelve weeks in, and I’ll be upfront: I’m below 248. Somewhere between 15 and 18 pounds down depending on the day, and moving in the right direction. But I want to talk about something this week that doesn’t get said enough in diet content — the AI doesn’t lose the weight for you. You do.

Claude gives me a plan. It portions out the meals, suggests modifications to my recipes, tells me how much chicken breast to weigh out and what to swap when I want something different. It’s a genuinely helpful tool. But when I come home from the grocery store, I’m the one standing at the counter with the scale, portioning chicken breasts into Ziploc bags — four ounces here, six ounces there. AI doesn’t do that. When I feel hungry after dinner and I think about grabbing something extra, AI isn’t there telling me to stop. That’s on me. Every time.

The cooking itself hasn’t changed that much. Chicken tandoori is still my recipe, just modified — a little less oil, same great flavor. Chicken marsala came out really well this week with breast instead of thighs, which is an easy swap that keeps the calories lower. The crock pork chops barely needed touching — it said the recipe was already pretty solid, just use low sodium broth and ease up on the rice. I’ll take that verdict.

One thing that came up this week was the parfait conversation. Happy healthy daughter wanted one, so I asked AI — here’s how much yogurt, here’s how many berries, here’s how much granola. Then I asked what about walnuts instead? And it just said sure, great option, here’s the adjustment. That’s what I mean when I say it’s a conversation, not a command prompt. It adapts. But you still have to go make the parfait.

Today is Father’s Day, which means happy healthy son and happy healthy daughter are making steak kebabs while I prep the broccoli. I uploaded the recipe, AI trimmed the oil down from a quarter cup to a few teaspoons — plenty for the marinade — and kept everything else. Vegetables are free on the calorie plan anyway, so they can load up the skewers. I’ll eat seven ounces of the steak and call it a perfect Father’s Day dinner.

Week 13 coming up: baked ziti lightened up with whole wheat pasta, turkey sausage, and less mozzarella; Korean tofu soup from my own recipe, modified; Moroccan spiced beef over couscous (AI’s suggestion — I mentioned I liked couscous and it connected the dots); and chicken shawarma back on the menu. A good week ahead.
