Budget Fajitas Restaurant Taste on a Dime!

When I find myself in a Mexican restaurant, the dish that I would like to eat the most is fajitas, but it is also one of the most expensive items you will see on the menu. In order to make it more affordable, I am showing you how to make the same delicious recipe right in your own home. I’m also using a cheaper cut of steak than you would often find in the restaurant. This meat might be a little tougher, but the flavor is still there and worth every penny you spend on this dish. Give this version a try, it just might become one of your favorite meals.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup onions
  • ½ cup olive oil
  • ⅓ cup red wine vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon pepper
  • ⅔ cup lime juice
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • ¼ cup chopped cilantro
  • ½ fresh Jalapeño pepper, seeded, ribs removed, finely chopped
  • 1½ pounds $5 steak
  • 8 flour tortillas
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • Your favorite salsa or try my pico de gallo recipe
  • Store bought guacamole or try my best guacamole recipe
  • Sour cream

Preparation 

  1. Mix all marinade ingredients from ½ cup onions to ½ fresh Jalapeño pepper. Set the steak in the marinade and let it sit at least on hour.
  2. Heat an iron cast skilled to high heat. Add a teaspoon of olive oil to the pan. Add the steak, frying on each side for 3 minutes. Remove from pan and set aside.
  3. Reduce the heat to medium high. Add oil if necessary. Add onions and bell peppers. Cook stirring frequently till the onions are translucent.
  4. Serve with shredded cheese, shredded lettuce, salsa, sour cream, guacamole and warm flower tortillas.
